If you could design your very own garden from scratch, what would that look like? Now you can figure out what kind of garden setup suits your lifestyle and how you want to grow your plants.

Whether you're starting out, or you know exactly what you want to see, there are a lot of choices to make, and decisions that seem endless. Don't give up - your perfect dream garden awaits.

You may be one of those people who have a romantic bent, so your garden might be outlined in willow fences, and be in a potager style, with lots of smaller beds surrounded by gravel walkways.

The plants you choose might be blowsy roses, in soft colors, and lots of cottage garden plants, including those used for dying wool, or to make into teas or pot pourri.

Here is a vibrant, natural garden layout that brings together all the elements you could wish for. You'll find a lush mix of fruit trees, nut-bearing bushes, and beds of pollinator-friendly flowers, all neatly enclosed by rustic willow hurdles.

Another person might want something more formal, so still in a group of beds, but outlined in boxwood hedges, with a more mathematical feel. Each bed would have various plants in a carefully planted and precise plan.

Someone else may prefer a garden using permaculture principles, where each plant is surrounded by a guild of complementary plants to support and enhance it. Generally, trees would be a focal point for comfrey, other herbs, and pollinator flowers.

They would be planted at the top of swales, so they would always have access to water.

The most favored plants would be fruiting or nut bearing trees, with berry bushes, native plants for pollinating insects and other multi purpose plants.

Of course, it will also have to have a compost pile, bin made from pallets, or even a modular stacking compost bin, a potting bench maybe, and even a shed so you can capture the water off the roof. If you're lucky, a place to sit in a shady spot to rest from your labors.

Your garden could be a blend of any other type of garden, which is completely fine. There is no perfect garden, but yours will be unique.
