Will it plant?

I know there must be a lot of people asking to put plants and things that weren't designed for, but I came across a pile of toilet tank lids at a local renovation restore and I was wondering if I flipped them over. Considering that the inside is porous somewhat, could I use them as a shallow plant pot?
Also, what plants would work best? + Any suggestions on layers + watering advice too?

The answer to your question is YES! I've planted similar low profile planters, with very little head room or drainage, and things like Sempervivum and other succulents will grow perfectly.

Mound up a cup or two of lava rock, gravel or even broken up chimney liner, pour a bit of soil over and plant into that, or actually just set them on top, with a layer of some pebbles or more lava rock, and they'll grow very well. If you wanted, you could drill a hole or two into them with a masonry bit, and some care, but honestly, it's probably not necessary.
