So, you made it through July, now you have to contend with the dog days of summer. I don't know why they call it that, but I imagine an old dog panting on the porch in the shade, rather like Charlie Daniels song, Long Haired Country Boy. If you don't know it, look it up on You Tube. August 1 2025Summer temperatures can be variable. Sometimes August is just brassy blue sky and constant heat, but other years it's broken up by periodic thunderstorms that can break the cycle, and leave some better, less intense weather in their wake. If the lawns are parched and brown already, you may be wishing for this.Here are some tips for keeping cool in the heat . The best way for me is to do any chores first thing in the morning after I open all the windows, and get outdoors and into the lovely fresh day, before it gets too hot. My puppy, now a young adult dog, is coming along nicely with training. He's just undergone surgery, which was two combined, a neuter, and a gastropexy. As he is a deep chested dog, this will prevent torsion, or bloat, where the stomach flips over. If this happens, it's an emergency, and also very painful. So it's to be avoided at all costs.
