Finally it's time to plant, carefully and judiciously. I planted my one bed with two rows of carrot seeds on home made seed tape, with three rows of onion sets surrounding them. I'm hoping that the two together will eliminate the carrot rust fly and the dreaded leek moth that was catastrophic for anything in the onion family last year.

Companion planting helps you decide which two (or more) plants will contribute to a better outcome, usually on the basis of repelling the pests that are attracted to the other plants.

If you've never built-a-dead-hedge , this is your sign. They really are a lot of fun to make, from designing where they'll go, to the fun of putting all the sticks and branches in, and they're really good for curves, if that's your jam.

See you soon - hopefully in the garden.
