here's the Frill Free Zone Newsletter March 01, 2026 |
Woo boy! The days are getting longer, for sure. There's more heat in the sunlight, especially through glass, so if you're starting seeds in cold frames or in glass greenhouses, just watch that your seedlings don't cook in the heat. March 1 2026By now, if you've ordered your seeds, you should have received them in the mail. I start some seeds under lights in the house (petunias, I'm looking at you), others can wait a bit if you're in the same kind of zone (6B) as I am.I plant sunflowers, beans and nasturtiums all together in the soil at the bottom of the walkway and ramp, where it's sheltered and warm, but that won't be until there's no more frost, maybe the end of May, so those will stay in storage until then. Meanwhile, some cuttings and Purple Wave and Blue Denim Shockwave petunias are all that's started so far. I don't start things too early as they just get leggy and weak. The petunias I do a bit early as I take cuttings from them to bolster the numbers. I don't sell them, strictly for my own use.
If you've started seeds already, what do you have, and how are you growing them? Inquiring minds.
