here's the Frill Free Zone Newsletter July 01, 2025 |
July is upon us, and this is when the heat hits the fan. If you have a dry spell, this can spell disaster to a garden that has no mulch , so learn about how to use mulching techniques to your advantage. That, along with learning how to harvest rainwater, will be your saving grace. July 1 2025There are many methods to grow a garden, from Charles Dowdings No Dig method, to the square foot gardening method outlined here. There's no wrong way to garden; all have their advantages and disadvantages. Take the best parts of each one and combine them if you wish, and develop the best system for your climate, gardening ability, and soil type.I want to use the no dig system to help mend the soil web including the mycelium, which forms a net in the soil that will symbiotically help your plants repel boarders and gain more nutrients from the soil. That's a win/win in my book. I have heavy clay soil here in my new garden in PEI, a complete 180 from my sandy and rocky soil in my British Columbian garden. Which
methods
do you prefer to use? Let me know if I can pull together more information on it for you.
