here's the Frill Free Zone Newsletter April 15, 2025 |
I'm loving these first few nice days, without that cold wind. My Mum used to describe it as a lazy wind - it goes right through you instead of going around. April 15 2025With the gardening season getting into full swing, there's lots to do. The indoor gardening part of things is geared solely to seed starting and raising those tender little seedlings, knowing that they will need to be strong and hardy to get outdoors at the end of May, only a few weeks away.In the outside department, it's easy to get carried away at the garden center and buy those pansies in full bloom, or even geraniums. Don't do it! There is still lots of time to get other flowers going, in perfect time to get them ready for the outdoors. Of course, if you want to have just one planter to give yourself the feeling of spring, that's absolutely acceptable! In the vegetable garden, you may have some organic gardening compost ready to spread on your garden beds. If it's ready to use, by all means sprinkle a thin layer on, then top dress after you plant. In the fall is the best time to put on a thicker layer, but if you missed that opportunity, now is the time. For other chores, it's a good time to get
fruit tree pruning
wrapped up. The best time is when the trees are dormant, but it's not a problem if you leave it, it just means that you could knock off flower buds, which means in turn that you won't have fruit.
