So many jobs still to do in the garden, even if you've had a spate of rain and cooler temperatures. September 15 2026With the weather giving you distinctly autumn vibes, grab your sweater and gum boots and get out there anyway. The main chores these days will be cleaning up the beds, and chopping up the weeds, which you'll cut off at the bottom of the stem, I hope.Leaving the roots and spreading a layer of finished compost on top will help protect the soil, and give the worms and other creatures a place to hide. What is no plow farming ? This is also called no till, and essentially it's exactly that. The ground is never tilled or disturbed. So you can get rid of your stinky rototiller, and deep digging tools. Phew! The main thing you will need is a lot of compost. Prepare your own, or purchase it. Do your due diligence when sourcing it, making sure it won't be contaminated with
aminopyralid herbicide
which can severely impact your crops, especially those in the solanacea family, like tomatoes and peppers. Making your own is a lot safer, and more fun, when you have a
stacking composting system
which also makes it a lot easier - try it!
